"Higher-Ups"

5 x 7"

oil on masonite

sold

I thought I'd do a small series of party-goers. The setting was very swank, an art/wine event in a beautiful home here in Atlanta where selected artworks, from local galleries, hung all around the rooms and halls, including two of my paintings.

I've spent the better part of this morning going through your blog and the bloggers you gave as links. Then I read your brief personal information on your website. I have to admit this is probably the most inspirational thing I've read in years. It basically taught me the only way to paint better is to PAINT. I decided to paint daily starting today, on small papers as exercises. I also have a small question: for figurative drawing/painting, do you have any recommendations of instructional/reference books? And when you switch from acrylics to oil, how did you start? If you do not have time to answer these questions, just ignore them. I'll follow your blog and see your wonderful paintings anyway.

Sorry it's me again. Just a curious question: where do you buy the masonite panels you use to paint? I tried a lot of online art stores but none of them office just masonite panel. Only canvas panels...

Karin,
Love this one......The light in the doorway is great , and love the loose strokes like the highlight on the green wall and the hardwood floor.
superb! Contemporary realism at it's best.

elfling - i'm not much of an instructional book type, so i don't have a suggestion - the panels are available thru dick blick, under gessoed hardboards.

Wow, the level of detail and lighting in your work is amazing. I wish I could do half as well.

Thanks! I've got some of the boards today and started painting. I guess instead of following instructions it is best to start up and paint!
