"Nonchalance"

There is something so gratifying about painting Sargent's works - I truly learn from it - as I do from all my little reproductions. It's how the great artists learned, aside from a teacher's instructions, they copied the masters. Things click. It's a large part of how I have taught myself how to paint with oils.

This woman is leaning closer to John Singer Sargent's "Nonchaloir (Repose)", one of my most-favorite paintings, which hangs in the National Gallery of Art, in Washington, DC.

Karin, this one is great. The colors and brush strokes are wonderful! I share your love of Sargent. He was a master. I just finished reading, Strapless, by Deborah Davis. It is about Sargent's life and his famous painting, Madame X.

In your previous post, not all of the link was posted.

Karin,
Love your work. Wish I was as prolific in my studio! I have been to the Mandville and really enjoyed seeing your originals in person. I also saw your self portrait and got kinda freaked out - we could be sisters. The resemblance is uncanny - and mildly spooky!
You inspire me to loosen up - keep up the great work.

I am a total fan, your color and lighting and staging are great. I also really admire your faithful portrayal of the master paintings that you put into your museum paintings.
I know that this isn't supposed to be a "how to paint" blog, but I'd be curious to hear about your methods. Painting on a black surface, for example is so unusual that I wonder why you started doing that.

Great painting. I notice you seem to spend a lot of time in the museums. Have you got your housework done?
