And for some GoodTV ... for those stuck inside with nothing to watch, stream in these two movies this weekend - Chef and Bernie. I promise, you'll love these movies.

Carrying on with my ode to dogs, inspired by the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show starting tonight.
My aim is to take my reference photos and invent an unexpected surrounding, playing with color as I like to do with my mugshot portraits in BUST-ED.
These are two graceful Whippets - wonderful curves and lumps and form.
Some have asked where the previous 'Dog Show' paintings were - here's the first six and here's more creatures I've painted in the past.

I went to a Dog Show in South Georgia a while back - nothing compared to the upcoming Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show but surely an event that just makes me so happy. I've painted a few in the past and this is a new addition to what could be a series.
And don't miss the Westminster on TV - it starts Monday night. Love the dogs. Love painting the dogs.

"Minnie"
nfsOne of my four-legged friends, Minnie, my good friend's pom - she lived a long, adventurous, loved life and passed away today. I've painted Minnie before, floating on a raft with her mom. RIP Minnie.

Adding to my ongoing series ATL to NYC & Back - another charming resident I met up with in Little Italy. Come to think of it, he's the only outdoor cat I saw during my stay in New York City.

I painted this guy once before on a smaller scale - just love him and the summer colors surrounding his little plot in the sun. Painting the scene a bit larger allowed more details, more of an impact I think. One of my all-time favorites.

I'm back home - had a wonderful time last Thursday night at the opening of my show. Everyone at the Morris & Whiteside Galleries made the evening a warm, inviting event and I thank them for that - I always meet the nicest people who've taken the time to come by. They all made me very proud.
I thought I'd continue posting several more that are included in the grouping, those that had sold early on - including one of my favorites - a rare, quiet moment when my friend Judy's pups, Emma and Abbey were crashed out on the couch. Judy's a dog-lover and when our Petey died a few months back, she sent lots of pictures of the pups. Made me feel good, brought some needed cheer.

Our Petey
Our sweet Petey passed away today. He was a great companion, so smart, so eager to please and always kept me company while I painted. He had a good life.
Signing off for a while....

"Welcome Center"
8 x 8"oil on masonite
As you can see, my friend's dog, Bernie is usually out front doing his job of either welcoming visitors ..... or not. He's like a massive sculpture in the sunshine, I couldn't wait to paint him.
This new piece will be included in the upcoming show 8 Squared, opening this Saturday.

You know I need a spiritual lift when I paint a dog. My moment of Zen. This cutey is my good friend's frisbee-loving, pillow-chewing, one-year-old Abbey - who is a white, yellow labrador retriever. Her fur is compelling in that it brings out blues, tans, purples, greens, pinks - well let's just say all colors in the shadows and light. Love it. I'm sure I'll do more of this sweetie pie.
and an update....... I've got 18 new paintings to show you in a couple of weeks - I'm very anxious to post them but they are in the early stages of drying, then varnishing, then framing and finally delivered to several galleries around the second week of March. Once they've arrived, I will show all of them on my blog and my website. I can't wait. Meanwhile, I have some catching up to do with real life and I surely will keep warmed up with some small, loose paintings that I will offer on auction. These small studies, as I am reminded today, are so much fun.

The way to achieve great joy in life is to paint dogs. You can quote me on that.

Thought I'd spread some red & green cheer on this busy week before Christmas, with a happy Boston terrier I spotted sniffing in the grass. (And thank you to those who corrected me on the breed.)
