"Romanticizing"

12 x 9"

For the Annual Invitational Small Works Show at the Howard/Mandville Gallery, I chose to paint my favorite subject including two of my favorite paintings in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. To the left is 'Arab Chief' painted by Mariano Fortuny y Carbo - a striking portrait that just floors me and in front of the young couple is the very romantic 'In the Luxembourg Gardens' by John Singer Sargent.

I love JSSargent! Lady Agnew of Lochnaw is my favorite portrait that he's ever done. As you say, it floors me! Good choice for your painting. Interesting that you painted the curtains to play such a major part of the painting. I wish I could see this painting in person. As always, beautiful work and juicy color! Go girl.
Speaking of other artists, I saw a show with Lane Bennion's originals, spoke with him and encouraged him to look you up as you both paint interiors, and he already knew your work. Way to go.

Hi Karin! I hope you don't mind me commenting here. I found your blog through Diana. You are a wonderful artist. Not only did you manage to paint your own picture but you got 2 others in as well...and they're impressive!

Perfect title, you captured "romance" in a oh so not overly sweet manner.

Karin,
How do you get photos of all these people at the
Art Institute? I sneak some every year when I visit but the last time a big guard threatened to take my little camera. It was embarrassing!
Love, love, love your work!
