"Slouchers"

That girl's posture pretty much defines how I feel - generally pooped. The past week has been go - go - go, including a trip to Hilton Head Island, spending time with family and meeting a lot of very nice people who took the time to come to the opening of my show Friday night. Attendance was around 100 - including artists and longtime patrons of the Morris & Whiteside Galleries - coming to see my new work and the new location of the gallery, which is just fabulous. I think one of the nicest comments I got was from a gentleman involved in the catering - who remarked that my work was 'very natural'.

What really makes me proud is the presentation of all the paintings together - after all, I paint each one, let it dry, varnish it, frame it and send it off. It's incredibly gratifying to see the finished work all together and lit up so beautifully. That's when I really feel like I've done what I set out to do. Please stop in the gallery during the month of March, if you're in the area.

This new painting is included in the collection - a couple of spent visitors beside Mary Cassatt's 'Little Girl in a Blue Armchair', in the National Gallery of Art.

Hello I have been following your blog for a couple of weeks now and I wanted to comment on how much I admire your ability to get a vast array of colors to respond to your light source with equality. It really tends to make your subjects so believable.
I look at your highlights and shadows of individual objects and they are truley consistant in how they respond to a light source. It amazes me how well you know the intensity of that light source and how it behaves.
Any thoughts on how you go about achieving that?

Hi Karin! It was worth the 2 1/2 hour drive from Charleston to Hilton Head to see your new show. There is nothing quite like seeing a painting in person! YOU are as real and wonderful as your paintings are I might add and it was such a memorable evening for me to finally meet you after following you on the internet for so many years. I hope you really will take me up on my offer. Email me when you are ready. Meanwhile, I'll continue to be your devoted "groupee"! I see my studio mate and her students entered the sushi challenge! This is the 2nd time I've typed this so hope i can send it this time! Told you I was "internet challenged".
Hugs!

Congrats on your opening- I am sure it took a lot of hard work- and I wouldn't be surprised to find you slouched somewhere!
Wish I could visit the gallery in person- the internet will have to do...

I have a technical question..... you mentioned how you paint, varnish and ship. Assuming this is done quickly, could you share your varnish tips? I prefer a sheen on my paintings and I like to do that once the paintings are dry to the touch but I read that you can't varnish the traditional way for 6 months. I use liquin, but I'm not sure if that is ok to do long term. Thanks!!!!
