"Purple Night"

My choices for landscapes are driven by not wanting to depict what is common - but to take from another perspective - from an otherwise overlooked place. Perhaps I have such a vivid memory of this moment too, as I faced the Atlantic Ocean, perched over the rooftops, thinking how lucky I was to be there under the bright, full moon ....... just at the right place at the right time.

As I post this new painting, I am cringing at the same time - thinking the thumbnail image looks a little too much like a Thomas Kinkade painting. Truth is, it doesn't in real life. The brush strokes are more interesting and evident, the dozens of different greys are subtle ...... I'm defending what you see. It's a good example of what can't be conveyed in an image.

An additional note ~ it's hard for me to believe it, but our beloved cat Willy, died this weekend. He was nearly 18 years old, lived outdoors, lived 9 lives over and over again and passed away in the spot where we commonly saw him basking in the sun. It feels cruel, to lose two of our pets within a week. I've painted Willy a couple of times through the years, no doubt I'll paint him again and again. Happy trails dear Willy.

I'm so sorry to hear about your cat, too! Oh no. My deepest sympathies.

(And your painting on-line doesn't remotely resemble a Kinkaid. Couldn't happen.)

I really admire your work, but haven't commented until now... so sorry to hear of your losses. You're right, it seems cruel. I've found death is like that. Profoundly cruel.

Oh jeez, when it rains it pours. I'm so sorry Karin. Please accept condolences. :(

Karin, I'm so sorry to hear about little Willy! You have my sympathy.

And, don't worry about your painting looking like a Kinkaid---no way! Yours is just breathtaking! You get better and better.

God no, that does not look like a Kinkaid. I love it, just beautiful.

So sad to hear about the kittie too, that's just not fair.

They are both exquisite. Love the looseness of both and especially the nocturnal. Your comment about Kincade on the other nocturnal is funny. The only thing I see IN THAT ONE is that the buildings look way to tightly rendered, but I can't enlarge it much to verify my observation, and I know you are not a "tight" painter.

I can see Willy walking a few steps in front of Jack taking the lead.

Wow, I am really sorry to hear about your second loss this week!

On an aside, I do NOT think your painting looks like a Thomas Kincaid. Good luck with your upcoming shows and the best for the week to come!

I'm genuinely sorry to hear about Willy's untimely passing so soon after Jack's.

As for the resemblance to Kinkade, I think not. Although I am sure he'd be flattered by the comparison, unless his work has changed quite dramatically in the past few months, he shouldn't flatter himself. Kinkade is simply no Jurick. :-)

So sorry about Willy the Cat. Seems he lived a good long full life. I've got a cat, Sara Kitty, who is around 19years old, we keep thinking anytime now but she keeps going strong. When she goes I know I'll dropping my tears everywhere. Sorry for your loss of loved pets so close to together.

Your painting even on the small blog looks nothing like a Kinkade. Beautiful night scene with a touch of anticipation of an adventure.

Another beautiful painting. I love the landscapes. this one and 404 are really beautiful.

And I'm truly sorry about your cat. That is a heartbreaker. We just lost a cat, named Fugazi, a month ago (he had a heart problem) and I couldn't believe how much it broke me up. It's definitely not fair to loose 2 pets so soon after each other.

Oh Dear Karin, that's entirely too much. I'm so sorry for the loss of your dear kitty.

My deepest sympathies. It does seem unfair to have to endure the loss of two beloved pets in such a short time. In volume four "the bitz" is one of my favorites.

No defense needed - it is a stunning painting.

Kinkaid wishes he could produce this and I wish I had his money.

I am so sorry about your cat, it does seem so cruel.
Your painting is beautiful, and not at all kitschie. Interesting perspective, a jurik original with it's usual freshness.

Karin,
You have spurred me to call my brothers because we never know what tomorrow may bring. So get this, I'll be calling my brothers, Jack and Will today.

I would paint dear Willy, like I did Jack except we are heading to KY to see our son and daughter-in-law. (the twins expectant ma & pa)

PS...(I hope TK doesn't read your blog) : ) Your painting is stunning. I love the reflection of the moon on the clouds making the odd shape up in the sky....not the predictable round glow. Did I mention TK and predictable in the same sentence? Hmmmm.

Oh, Karin, what a cruel thing to happen in such a short period of time. I am so sorry for your loss of another loved one.
Your painting is wonderful - great mood to it - NOTHING like a Kinkaid, have no worries.

Karin so sorry about losing another friend. My reflex was it was lucky that saw he had indeed passed away so you didn't have to wonder and I'm sure you gave a proper goodbye. That is such a cool painting of him!

And your landscape is so not Kinkaid, that very Jurik, genuinely sensitive and to the point. And I love your work so much I've humbly awarded you the Brillante Weblog award to thank you for your dedication to art and for inspiring me :) - Erika

Karin, you are having a terrible time at the moment, my deepest sympathies to you...
You are painting beautifully despite the sadness.

Dear Karin,
nothing I can add here except that our dear, dear pets are living on in our hearts. My mum's cat Diablo, died in his outdoor resting spot at 16 years old. The consolation was that they found him there and didn't have to wonder about him eternally.
Forgive me, but I think your grief has led you to erroneously compare your beautiful, masterful, inspired work to TK.
Um. NOT!
PS: he wishes

Oh Karin, this is so sad. It must be awful to go through this again after losing Jack. You have my sympathy.
And there is no way your work resembles Kinkaide's.

Hi Karen, love the landscapes. I am sorry to hear of your loss. We lost our cat of 19 years last winter. We now have a wonderful new loving cat Artie, he named himself. But he has really filled a gap in our hearts. Hope you are well.

Karin,
What a terrible time for you and
your lil' loved ones. So very sorry.
You put so much love into your work, they kind of live on in it. How sorely they will be missed...they must be in greener pastures somewhere we can only hope. Nina

I just discovered your work and your blogs through some other artist friends of mine doing your painting challenges. You do such fantastic work.

I'm also so sorry for your losses so close together...been there, done that. It's never easy. You certainly have many memories that will live on in your mind and your beautiful paintings.
