"Elbow Room"

11 x 8"

11 x 8"
(and the back of the trolley)

whew! I've been working hard on this pair - I'll tell ya, when I finished the 'front' of the busload and knew it was exactly what I envisioned, I just had to do the 'back'. Tricky, because it all had to line up and the colors needed to be remixed to match the first. Easier said than done. Lots of math. I hate math. The other lessons to learn were the values, the faces in the shade versus the faces in the sun. Or partial sun. All in all, it was challenging and fun.

I think my brain is fried - I need some suggestions for a title. Please.

The trolley and its contents were taken from Savannah, Georgia. This pair will be included in 16 Patton's figurative show starting June 14th. Please click here for a larger view.

Update - The buyer of these paintings also had a vote on the title and we both liked 'Elbow Room'. Thanks to all who chimed in with a suggestion. They were all great.

Fantastic Karin, Looks like the math worked! Great collection of characters and facial expressions.

Omigosh, these are fabulous. You know, Judy Garland sang a song that could be used as your titles: "Ding, ding, ding went the trolley" and "Clang, clang, clang went the bell." Corny, true, but would add that mental soundtrack in the viewers' minds, perhaps.
LOVE the light and shadow of the arms in the windows. You rock!

I would call it "And on our right you can see...."

It is really wonderful.

Here's a name for you. "Don't look now but the famous artist Karin Jurick is taking your picture" It's just wonderful! Barb

I love the way you take the everday world and make it fascinating.

How about, "People in a Box."

Incredible paintings.... the colors, the unusual subject and the composition are just wonderful. They remind me of Animal Crackers - what fun!

Really great paintings! I love the play between the bright yellow background with the dark/cool interior of the trolley.

You nailed this one! I like Susan's title idea the ding, ding and clang, clang....but I tend to name some of my paintings in paragraphs anyway.

Hi, Karin,
These are wonderful. When I saw it I immediately thought, they have plenty of "elbow room". Great colors and shadows. Just keeps getting better.

Fantastic painting!

Suggested titles:

"Tourats"

"Please Remain Seated"

"The Vacationers"

"Front and Back"

Or name them "Rice" and "'Roni" ...and let people think these are San Francisco trolleys...

Karin, Still enjoying your work! I couldn't help but notice that all but one of the riders are focused on their destination. As an artist I would prefer to be the one rider focused on the view. So my suggestion for a title would reflect that. Focus- The Destination or The View?

I would call it: "View From the Trolley" *('I' and 'II' or 'Front' and 'Back'), because when I see these, I think of the unseen view they are seeing.

Well done, and a nice pair!
