oil on masonite

I've been expanding my studio this past week, painting a little bit in the evenings, and instead of doing a couple of small pieces I kept on working on this new painting. It is a bit larger than the usual sizes I offer on eBay, and I wanted to experiment with how this composition would look - the figure close up to a huge piece of artwork that pretty much takes over the entire space. I thought it might be too busy, but really I like how the figure is slightly hidden in the scene. The painting that the woman is looking closely at is Henri Matisse's "The Moroccans", which hangs in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Love this one, Karin! It's nice to see you move in tighter compositionally in your museum paintings. I love that she's sort of lost among the artwork!

This is really interesting--a new approach to the viewer/artwork theme. It has great "scale"--feels much larger than its 8x10 size. Wonderful work.
Ooooh, I hope you do more works like this. It's so intense. Great piece. :o)
Hi Karin,
You're my favorite artist I've found on my friend Belinda's blog. So much so that you're the only artist I don't personally know whose link I've put on my blog. Your museum paintings have inspired me to do small series of museum monotypes. What a wonderful surprise this piece is. Matisse is my favorite artist, and that Matisse room in the MOMA is one of the most sacred places on earth to me. I can spend hours in that room, its like a church. I LOVE this painting. I shouldn't spend the money, but I might have to jump in and bid on this one. Thank you for sharing your beautifuk work.
