On the first floor, in the New Modern Wing in the Art Institute, there are several of these benches lined up in front of a stark, white wall.  It's one of my favorite people-watching spots.

"A Grey Area"

9 x 12"

oil on masonite

I'm sure I was inspired by the "Power of Art" series on PBS - the segment of Mark Rothko especially. This newest painting was done with the intention of placing someone in front of a massive Rothko abstract that married well with the overall colors and tones. I really enjoyed this and intend to do more down the road.

More information about this painting will follow in a few days.

"Fancy Pants"

9 x 12"

oil on masonite

sold

I've been a bit of a computer geek this week, setting up a new system, getting out of the dinosaur days. All hard work, but great fun in the end. Now it's time to get back to painting.

This new piece is of a woman inside the Art Institute of Chicago. She certainly caught my eye - with those colorful pants - every time she stood in front of a painting with the blues and greens, she looked like part of the art. So cool.

This painting can be purchased directly through me.

"Vested Interest"

There's something about this woman that I really like. I want to paint her in a couple of poses. She was alone in the museum, seriously studying every piece of art. I love watching people really soak up the paintings and she certainly was. Behind her is an Edvard Munch painting - a lone figure of a woman as well. This scene was taken from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

"Field Trip"

16 x 8"

oil on masonite

sold

I was so happy to return to painting today, it's been too long without. But now the retail part of my life has calmed down and I start back to work in my studio - getting new pieces done for a solo show in February. I'm very excited.

This painting depicts a single-file line of school kids waiting to get into an exhibit in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. It will be included in my show as well.

I know a lot of you are getting ready to celebrate Christmas and I wanted to wish you and yours a wonderful holiday. I hope you'll return back after Christmas to see the new daily paintings coming up.
