"Their Sunday Best"

8 x 10"
oil on panel
sold

I did finish this painting, after a marathon of 5 days.  I'm more inclined to start a piece and finish it before I turn in, but this one demanded more time.  It will be included in Anne Irwin's May Show titled 'Apres Paris'.

The two sisters, in their Sunday best, were marveling over Georges Seurat's 'A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte' in the Art Institute of Chicago.

The gallery sold this quickly and I am thrilled.

Going Nuts with Progress

Imagine - you decide to paint your large bedroom, move the furniture, cover the furniture, go get the gallons of paint and brushes.  You wake up the next morning knowing full well it'll take several days of your life and you just go for it.

That's what it was like on Monday morning when I started this painting.  I should say when I started Seurat's painting 'A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte'.  Yikes.

The detail matters.  So I took my time, used every color in the rainbow and while painting, I imagined Seurat working on a canvas 10 feet by 7 feet and layering millions of dots.  How did he not go nuts?

And here I'm whining about 8 inches by 5ish inches.

My very-used pizza pan of colors....

"Back In The Day"

14 x 11"
oil on masonite
sold

On the heels of finishing the pieces for the Landscape (group) Show which is opening this weekend at 16 Patton - I'm starting on several paintings for several Small Works Shows that take place in November and December. This new piece will be included in Howard/Mandville's group show - check their website for dates.

These two gentlemen stand before the awesome Seurat work 'A Sunday on La Grande Jatte', in the Art Institute of Chicago. As seen in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, 100's of 1000's of dots of paint make up this painting - it is remarkable.
