A woman I spotted as I was heading to the Spring Steeplechase in Aiken, South Carolina - one of the hundreds of people who tote all their stuff in for the day-long event.

  8. Great piece. I love how you give weight to forms such as the subtlety of how she is shifting her weight to support the heavy basket. What was it about the other attempts that made you discard them?

  9. I was so bent on painting literally from the photo - didn't like it at all. Third try, I pitched the photo, somewhat imagined the scene, the woman and winged it. Good lesson to not depend so much on the reference.
