I painted this guy on a ground of metallic silver, slightly sanded to take the paint - I think it worked perfectly with the hair and beard. Very fun to paint.

Karin, thank you for what you do. Your paintings are influencing my desire to paint more prolifically. I know you usually paint from photographic references, but it looks like these faces are from live models. Which are you using? And if I may ask, I would love to know more about the models- how do you find the models to sit for you?

I love this series. I'm currently doing the daily painting thing with still lifes, and finding it way more interesting than I ever thought still life could be- but what could be more interesting than the human face??? You do so much more than a portrait- you capture expression with lively brush strokes and yummy paint colors. Love it!

Wow Karen, he's lovely! The texture to this piece is just great, too. It gives it so much energy. He looks simply angelic...such a sweet face.
He appears to be completely unfazed by his current accommodations.. and you caught it- beautifully! Who would have thought I would want paintings of mug shots- but I do!!
