I painted this guy on a ground of metallic silver, slightly sanded to take the paint - I think it worked perfectly with the hair and beard. Very fun to paint.
Karin, thank you for what you do. Your paintings are influencing my desire to paint more prolifically. I know you usually paint from photographic references, but it looks like these faces are from live models. Which are you using? And if I may ask, I would love to know more about the models- how do you find the models to sit for you? ~anxiously awaiting No. 12....
I love this series. I'm currently doing the daily painting thing with still lifes, and finding it way more interesting than I ever thought still life could be- but what could be more interesting than the human face??? You do so much more than a portrait- you capture expression with lively brush strokes and yummy paint colors. Love it!
This piece is fabulous, although I'm enamored of all of them, number 4 looks like my sister when she was young! A question, was the silver ground acrylic or oil? Thanks.

He appears to be completely unfazed by his current accommodations.. and you caught it- beautifully! Who would have thought I would want paintings of mug shots- but I do!! They are really wonderful!
