"The Sari"

12 x 12"

When I see a woman in a sari, I stare. It's wrong to stare, I know, but I'm in love with the fabrics and the drapery and I immediately see a painting in my head. This particular moment struck me, when this beautiful lady stood next to Mary Cassatt's "The Bath" - it was all about pattern and color, and of course, being a woman.

This new painting will be included in the February show at the Howard/Mandville Gallery. For a larger view, please click here.

  1. Karin,
I just had to post another comment in your blog since it has been a long while since my last one.

Your artwork blows me away. I know that's a silly statement, but it is so fitting for how I react when I see your work. I have been following you on eBay for quite some time now and even purchased one of your booklets of artwork last year.

Everyone that I showed that booklet to began drooling all over the pages, so I had to take it away from people all the time because I didn't want them to ruin it. One for one, the reaction is the same.

You are one of the best painters alive today!!!

  2. Karin, LOVE this..The woman in the Sari makes it so much more visually interesting...
Plus..i'm a big Mary Cassatt fan . When we were at the High, I bought a large poster with Cassatt's 'The family" on it.
I have no doubt your show is going to be a "Sellout!"

  3. Well, I just am so inspired by all of these gallery paintings. I did a big one last spring and it sold before I even finished it.

Question. I notice that a lot of the gallery inspired paintings are from the Art Institute in Chicago. Do you visit Chicago often? I'm lucky to live only 1-1/2 hours away from such a great place.

  4. Wow - this is one amazing painting- this woman the viewer....and the Mary Cassatt - the 2 together must've been quite the serendipitous moment as it certainly makes for an intriguing painting - I just LOVE IT!

  5. Hi Karin, this has to be my favorite painting of yours! I love the color choices, the way you've handled the cloth and the Mary Cassatt is my favorite painting of hers too, this is the best of both worlds! Everything about it is just beautiful.
Thanks for your creativity, it really inspires me to keep going with my work

  6. Hello Karin,
Just found your web page and blog. I will be the proud and lucky holder of this painting after the Howard Mandville show. I've watched your work only for a short time, but am most impressed. Fell in love with "Left Holding the Bag" when I saw it in American Art Collector, but someone beat me to it. Love the colors and boldness of few strokes in all your work, the heavy paint, the familiarity of the subjects and the backgrounds in the Chicago Art Institute, on the beach, etc. I love these small works, these jewels that draw you closer. Don't EVER give up on this size, even if/when you start experimenting in bigger spaces. Yours is a great life story (so far)and I look forward to following you and your work--here, in the galleries, and on eBay too. Cheers!
    Peace, David
