A woman I spotted as I was heading to the Spring Steeplechase in Aiken, South Carolina - one of the hundreds of people who tote all their stuff in for the day-long event.
A beautiful painting with a real "painterly" feel about it. Thank you for telling about the failed attempts. Remembering your wipe-offs will make me feel a bit better about mine.
Great piece. I love how you give weight to forms such as the subtlety of how she is shifting her weight to support the heavy basket. What was it about the other attempts that made you discard them?
I was so bent on painting literally from the photo - didn't like it at all. Third try, I pitched the photo, somewhat imagined the scene, the woman and winged it. Good lesson to not depend so much on the reference.
I am sorry but loved hearing about your failed attempts. Made me laugh. It makes us all feel better about our own. I am amazed by the way you painted the foliage. All great. Congratulations on all these wonderful new pieces.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this painting. ..and it does my heart good to know that even you have to start over sometimes. I admire your work and aspire to it.
ReplyDeleteGreat composition!
ReplyDeleteThis piece is well worth the extra effort it took, a real treasure.
ReplyDeleteGreat composition and use of light. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely. It's great to see the detail on it too :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great painting - and I really admire your tenacity!!
ReplyDeleteThe artists' dilemma...but it's nice to know that everyone has wipers.
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous, as usual.
