This new painting is the largest piece in the show - done on a cradled masonite panel - and like the painting 'Below the Belt', I added a paprika-like ground color on top of the black and let that vibrant, warm tone show through in many of the edges as well as the floor, which is what I love most about the end result.
The two figures were wonderful to paint, especially the woman who has that great S-shaped posture. Included front and center is Georgia O'Keeffe's 'Black Cross, New Mexico', one of my all-time personal favorites in the Art Institute of Chicago.

So worth waiting for. LOVE your work, love texture, your color sense, the composition - all of it. Good stuff!
ReplyDeleteKarin, I'm really enjoying these close-ups of the beautiful paintings you did for your upcoming show. My favs are Abstract Thought and Booster Seat 2, but it's hard not to love any of them. Looks like they may all be sold before the show opens...bring backups, you'll need 'em!
ReplyDeleteThis is brilliant! You've captured the gesture of the girl so perfectly - I can build a whole image and character for her just from seeing her back in your painting. Always a pleasure to see your new paintings, keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteWonderful painting. I do like the woman's S shape, and all the fabric folds.
ReplyDeleteI love the gesture of his feet and how that tote bag really looks weighted -
ReplyDeleteStunning, Karin. And the 'S' curve of the woman is exactly what drew me in when I first laid eyes on the image. You pack a lot of info into a 16x16 painting! Good luck with the show!
ReplyDeleteLovely, Karin. Great detail work all around in this one.
ReplyDeleteYes - lov'n this one with the warmer ground you have used. I really think the posture you have caught with the woman is bang on, and it absolutely draws you in.
ReplyDeleteYour figurework is truly amazing, Karin. Love the negative space/shape between the two viewers.
ReplyDeleteHi Karin,
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love this painting! It is so stunning. You are a master at capturing the gesture of the body. And your knowledge of colours and light is definitely something I aspire to have. I love everything you love about this painting and I would also like to add that I love how you suggested that her jacket is tied around her waist by those two pointy, hanging pieces of fabric. Fantastic! And certainly what people do while they wander around a gallery or museum. I agree, it is fascinating to people-watch in this setting. Can't wait to see more.
Kind regards,
Nicki
The body language is soooooo good in this one Karin! The composition is bold - and perfect! You do such a great job of keeping looseness in your larger works, the time spent on all those little guys so has so clearly served your growth!
ReplyDeleteWow , so refreshing , Karins signature style is truly awesome
ReplyDeleteThe warm tones are magnificent! The woman's loose free-form stance contrasts beautifully with the rest of the painting, making it wonderfully composed.
ReplyDeleteFantabulous , Karin
ReplyDeleteBravo ! j'aime bien vos peintures !
