One of my favorite paintings of the week - done fast and with a flat, honker brush and a wide range of color - letting the orange ground peek through a bit more. When I need some inspiration, I look at other painters' works - with landscapes, I pour over Doug Braithwaite's to remind myself that you don't have to nitpick to get the point across.
Love it... the eyes just go up and down and on and on!!
ReplyDeleteThose cows are great too... WOW... your fun and stretching stuff is a joy to behold.... just like your "normal" work!!
How did you make a straight country road so exciting? Wow.
ReplyDeleteThis has a lovely feel to it--nice color and cropping, too.

I like your comparison with artists and chefs. I think artists of all genres are influenced by what sells or by what people like. Its hard not to be. The difficulty is in breaking away from that trend (sometimes) and doing what you WANT to do...to do some experimenting, and be prepared to fail. I like how you are showing us your experiments with new colors, brush work, and subject. I drool over Braithwhite's work as well. He does say a lot without resorting to fussiness of detail or overworking areas. I enjoy oils worked "alla prima", animated brushwork, and saying more with less. A goal I struggle with daily. I am enjoying your work with the orange ground.
ReplyDeleteThis painting takes my breath away! It's like an landscape made out of opals.
ReplyDeleteWell played and paintted. Great suggestion...Doug Braithwaite's work is great for getting a lot from simple brush strokes.
ReplyDeleteThis piece and the one below are wonderful. Thanks for sharing Doug's link - his work is spectacular too!
ReplyDeleteVery striking Karin ! Love the beautiful blues and greens which you have so skillfully blended.
ReplyDeleteGreat painting!
Simple and fresh. Nice.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful-reminds me one of Jane Wilson's. The liquid paint and colors. The format is small but space big. Wish I had painted it.
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable, now if it's not warm enough for me to go outside tomorrow, I suggest no one talk to me - I love your outdoor paintings and just when I thought I might never go outside again (a long fall of being attacked by wind propelled panels) I might just be inspired.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading your "PLAY" comments and the way to work out a creative block. You so right about Doug's work, it inspirational, as is yours
ReplyDeleteI love this one Karin. It just vibrates! Hard to believe it's 5x7.
ReplyDeleteSuper , this ones superb .
ReplyDeleteThe strokes are too rich.
It´s a great work, congratulations from spain
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely lovely. Thank you for sharing your inspirational work.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love this and would love to paint with this style one day. Would you please explain what a honker brush is?
ReplyDeleteHonker is HUGE. A big, fat, flat brush is my jam.
