"A Lull"

There was a lull. I got back to painting and found the mess around me unsettling. So I did a long-overdue cleanup of my studio which lead to a long-overdue cleanup of my distribution center (formally my dining room) which lead to pulling out my winter clothes and cleaning them. Back to work.

This new painting is part of my ongoing series ATL to NYC & Back - a couple of waiters during a lull, spotted in Little Italy.

    The contrast of lights and darks is so striking in this painting. I like the simple composition, and I love the yellow -- it glows!

    As always, the gestures are perfect! The yellows, especially in the table cloths are so sunny and bright. I like the shadows on the white shirts, too.

    Haven't come down from the workshop yet. What was it you put in those M&Ms? :-D

    I was wondering whether you'd gotten on a plane and spent a few days in Italy - 'Little Italy' explains the italian feeling in this painting. Definitely glowing!

    Fabulous painting and this is why you are king:) I love to pick a favorite moment in a painting and this has three! Besides the overall yummy colors and light and shadow- these stand out... The guy in back has a wonderful shadow on the wall behind him-love it= gives such depth. Front guy has gorgeous light on his shirt that is so well done. Best...His shoe arched up with shadow below-OMG good:)
