"100 Faces, No. 36"

4 x 4"
oil on masonite
sold

I prefer to start painting on a dry ground - every so often I enjoy staining a white surface with an oiled-down color and working from there. I love the results, especially with these yummy umbers and olive greens.

I like the oranges in his skin tones, especially on the forehead. It's amazing that you can take a limited palette and the result is so rich.

I agree with Linda. The richness of this piece is very pleasing.

So when you work this way, you actually start with a "wet" surface? Very interesting.
This guy has a pair of those marvelous liquid eyes that seem so filled with emotion.

I love participating in the wonderful melting pot of America you are brewing.
