"100 Faces, No. 8"

The rules of painting are meaningless to me, as with the rules of color. It can bog you down, make you doubt yourself. Rely on instinct. Put a dab of paint down that you may not 'believe' is right and see what happens. Like that blood-red around the eyes. Last minute touch. I'm learning a lot.

    Nice touch Karin. Yesterday I was doing a painting, a change of pace, and used pure cad red light that was a little drier and it added a real nice glowing skin tone. Keep up the paitning of the faces, lol.

    Yeah. About art laws. I spent 3 weeks belaboring stretching a large canvas because I didn't have the tools to make a 'proper' cross brace. I had the canvas and the outside bars already but didn't do it because it 'wasn't right'.
    I did it anyway and no warping yet. Even if it does warp I could add braces later, right? I didn't paint for weeks because of fear. I agree that preconceived ideas just harbor fear or slow you down.

    I love the idea of no art rules. An instructor/mentor has told me that for a long time, and it is so true. We can get so caught up in trying to do it "right", that we lose touch with the idea of interpretation of the subject. Thank you for you wonderful work and your inspiring writing!
