As I was updating my website, I realized I had not posted several new paintings on this blog. Including the above piece done for the May show at Howard/Mandville. It is a personal favorite of mine - perhaps for its handsomeness, the warm greys and browns, the rare image of someone reading a real newspaper.... I am very fond of this painting.

I really enjoy the colors and tones in this one.
ReplyDeleteI am very fond of it too! Super.
ReplyDeleteI’ve been lurking for a while, but want to comment on this piece because I find it really compelling. I can understand why you like it so much. Wonderful simple abstract shapes. The lost edges in the figure and table add a lot of interest. The tiles in the floor echo the newspaper. The gradation from bottom to top leading our eyes up. And the way all the elements (table top, readers’ legs, diagonals and color patterns in the floor, top of the picture plane) lead to the main subject (newspaper and reader). I could go on. Just an incredibly well done image.
ReplyDeleteI actually saw this one at your gallery's site and yes, it is one of my favorites as well! Love the highlight on the pant leg and the selective dashes of intense color to catch the eye.
ReplyDeleteI look at painting like these and only wish that I had 1% of the gift that you have! Your viewpoint, composition, colors and over all execution are simply stunning! I am so impressed with your talent, your gift and your beautiful paintings. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteCan't say anything better than what's alredy been said above...gorgeous :)
ReplyDeleteYep, it's a fine piece!
ReplyDeleteI love the abstract shapes and how you manage to convey the essence. Beautiful works all.
ReplyDeleteI can certainly see why this is a favorite. I love all the strong darks and the yummy caramel colors in the floor. That squiggly spot in tile is very alluring. I like the way you kept the palette limited. Candace said it all. This painting works on so many levels. Really great, Karin!
ReplyDeleteFantastic piece. I can understand why it's a personal favorite. I'm captivated by the mystery created through the shadows, shapes, and color.
ReplyDeleteI love the composition and color on this one
ReplyDeleteI love it too! As well as the "quiet read at the library" one.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I love the floor. You got talent, girl.
ReplyDeleteawesome awesome awesome. Such a unique angle. As you say though, the color harmony is smashing. All those rich grays. You Rock.
