oil on masonite

I couldn't resist trying another of this subject. There's been some discussion on my blog about painting on a black background, and I think this piece shows how a little bit of black can be used within the edges. This is another little crowned artist drawing on the sidewalk at an arts festival.
these little girls make a great series. very sweet!
ReplyDeleteOk, I think I understand why you paint on black, but why do you and others use masonite panels and where do you buy these? Thanks! Love this series of little artists! Too cool!~Lara
ReplyDeleteThis is a great painting and this little figure has lots of character. You've really captured the child in this piece.

Lara,
ReplyDeleteI dunno about Karin, but I use masonite because it's cheap. I buy a bunch of 6x6 from dickblick and it works out to like 34 cents each. Gesso one side and you're ready to go.
I like square formats so much more than 'standard sizes'. Compositions can be cropped in a more visually interesting way. As for masonite, I want to have a firm surface - simple as that.
