Happy New Year

I've had a good day of painting today. A good year of painting. I figured I have done, in a year's time, 259 paintings. Two of which I gave as gifts and one that I painted over. It's also been a classic "be careful what you wish for" year. All I can say is, the timing was right, for me, and that's everything. If it's not possible for you to paint every day or even half the week - it will be someday. I spend my entire 20's and 30's working 7 days a week. I never imagined that I would, one day, make a living as a painter. And here I am. The timing was right and I was more than ready.

So I guess what I've learned most, especially this year, is that if you're not quite where you want to be, dream to be, it takes a lot of unnoticed steps, some luck and an intense amount of dedication to get there - but it's possible.

It's time for me to clean up and get ready to shoot off some fireworks and bang those pots and pans at midnight. And wish for the impossible. Happy New Year my friends.

  1. Hear, hear!!! Congratulations on a fabulous year. I know that sticking with it works, as I am just beginning to make strides after getting back into painting. It's been a good year.

  3. Thanks for writing this day's comment Karin, I feel like you've spoken to me directly with encouragement. I've watched amazing growth happen in your work this year,& it's been absolutely thrilling to see your 'fan club' grow like kudzu in a rain storm. I am continually amazed & inspired by each new work you post. Cheers & blessings for many many more years to come. Glad to hear you were out banging the pan lids - we were the only crazy southerners on our street in CT nuts enough to do it!! whoo-hoo & happy new year

  7. Thank you for being such a voice of reason - you almost sound too humble too about your successful year. You are amazingly talented and deserve such success and I wish you much more in future. I am happy to hear that you are enjoying it so. And really appreciated a pep talk that seemed directed at me. I have a small child and all that goes with the family trappings and sometimes feel quite depressed about my "art time". But I am relatively young and, God-willing, have time to paint for 30-40 years more. So must not fret now. Peace and happy new year to you. - Robin C
