"Waves"

5 x 5"
oil on panel

A new addition to my series A to Z - girls splashing in the waves at the beach on Hilton Head Island.

I don't know where you live, but here in Atlanta, splashing in the waves sounds p-r-e-t-t-y good right now.

"Cannonball"

In Charleston, South Carolina - my favorite gallery with some rockin' artists is Robert Lange Studios.  In most galleries in the city you'll find traditional works of art, mostly featuring low-country landscapes and the city's landmarks catering to tourists.  Robert Lange, an impressive painter himself,  broke that mold and created a gallery of modern contemporary works catering the young and hip crowds and collectors.

I would love to be one of his featured artists someday - and that's why I was thrilled to be invited in an upcoming group show titled 'Fluent', opening in The Vendue, a boutique hotel just right around the corner from the gallery.  The Vendue calls itself  'Charleston's Art Hotel', hosting year-round group shows of original art - very, very cool place.

The show 'Fluent' opens June 11th, with over 40 artists represented by Robert Lange Studios.

The theme is along the lines of water, motion, fluent.  This is my piece titled 'Cannonball' - a series of 6 - 5 x 7" panels featuring my neighbor, Rocky.

Here are the individual paintings a little larger....

If you're in Charleston, please stop in at The Vendue to see the show.

"Reflect Upon"

6 x 6"
oil on panel
sold

The truth about my absences - I've been on three road trips, totalling over 4,000 miles since the end of September.  I like to get out in the world in the fall and hole up in the winter so I got it all out of my system.  I don't post 'Hey, I'm out of town for a week' for obvious reasons but I am home, back in the studio and I'm not going anywhere until I see spring flowers.

I live in the Deep South, but today it's bitchin' cold, even for Atlanta so naturally my thoughts turn to warm days at the beach, with this new painting - a scene from Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

You know how I love reflections.

"Ripples"

5 x 7"
oil on masonite
sold

detail

My friends enjoying a cool afternoon in the pool. This was great fun to paint. Not sure if I could pull it off - started at the top, above water, with tiny strokes and details - once I got below water, my brush just followed the ripples and distortion of the figure. Lots of colors, lots of swirls, wonder light - very fun to paint.

It seems like after a long day, my alter ego comes out in paintings. The looser side of me. I want to see less detail and more impact with bigger strokes. Great fun. Especially with this subject matter. Here are a few close-ups of the two women.

"Alone"

6 x 6"

oil on masonite

sold

I'm happy to have squeezed in a small, daily painting tonight- I've been working on pieces for a show in July and it's all-consuming, to say the least.

This woman was enjoying some "me-time" on a Saturday morning on Oak Street Beach, in Chicago. I thought of doing a larger painting of her - so I've tried it out in this smaller format to get an idea of its impact. I'd love some feedback when you've got the time.
