It was probably the rain and the splendid solitude I had in my studio today which prompted me to paint this woman who was enjoying some me-time with a good book. I've painted her a couple of times, I find the image to be so relaxing and Zenlike. The scene was from a park bordering the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC.

Your treatment of the sunlight on her hat is brilliant - pun intended :).
I can almost "feel" the grass she's sitting on with your bold brushwork. The painting does have a wonderful "Zen" quality to it.
For another take on a sunlit hat you may want to see my painting posted July 15 "David - Robin Hood". Stop by and leave a comment if you have a chance. (Do you Ever stop painting? You make Da Vinci look like a slacker.) You Go Girl!
Best regards,
Kay Schneider
Opps!I forgot to leave you the address to see the hat with a feather in "Robin Hood". It's at http://paintcharlestondaily.blogspot.com
Hope you get a chance to see it.
Your hat in "Splendid Solitude" is almost as great as that wonderful white hat in your painting "Easter Lily".
Hats off to you!
Kay
I don't mean to engage in hyperbole but this painting is a masterpiece. It's hard not to repeat myself when commenting on your work but it continues to be extraordinary time-after-time. The direction of the brushwork seems to help unify this really awesome little composition. Value, color and above all, personality of the figure and an over all mood. very well done. A thousand bravos.
All my best,
Todd
Hi Karin,
This painting is wonderful. It reminds me a lot, both in setting and atmosphere of a modern day rendition of a model that could have been used in a Georges Seurat painting, except your colors and light are better.
Star Gazers is also one of my new favorite of yours.
Kudos to you,
Alvin Richard
So idyllic! I really like how you've handled all the various aspects. Very "painterly"!
Hi Karin,
I cannot find anything to add, except that it really makes me want to see you doing a landscape.
Regards,
Elijah.
